IT & Security Engineer (Graduate / Early Career) — AI-Native
About Mutinex
At Mutinex, we believe marketing deserves to be treated as a performance discipline — not a cost centre. We're building the growth decision engine that replaces slow, conflicted measurement with fast, independent, AI-powered intelligence. Trusted by brands like Hershey, Samsung, and Domino's, our platform empowers marketers to make confident, data-driven decisions that drive real business growth. We're an Australian-born, globally scaling B2B SaaS company and we're just getting started.
Hybrid across Sydney, Melbourne, and New York. We highly value communication, open-mindedness, and a culture of feedback.
How We Work
We believe most routine IT work, access provisioning, onboarding checklists, device setup, and common support requests should be handled by agents, not people.
We're already deep into this shift across engineering. We use Claude Code as our primary AI development tool. We've built Forge — our internal tooling layer with shared skills, agents, and hooks that encode team knowledge. We run weekly AI Office Hours to pair on real problems. Every engineer is expected to be actively building this capability.
Now we want to bring that same mindset to IT and security operations. If a process is repetitive, we want an agent handling it. If access provisioning takes a human 15 minutes, we want it to take zero. This role will own IT operations and automate routine tasks so they can focus on security, infrastructure, and work that requires human judgment.
The Role
This is Mutinex's first dedicated IT & Security Engineer. You'll own IT operations for an ~80-person company, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering.
But this isn't a traditional IT role. Your real mandate is to automate as much of it as possible using AI agents and workflow automation, so you can grow into owning our security stack and production infrastructure.
What the work looks like:
Own IT, Then Automate It
IT Operations — Be the go-to for the team. Device provisioning (MacBook fleet), software access, troubleshooting, vendor account management. Learn every process, then figure out which ones an agent should be doing instead.
Agentic Automation — Build AI-powered agents and workflows to handle repetitive IT tasks: access requests, onboarding/offboarding sequences, common troubleshooting, status checks. Your success metric isn't tickets closed: it's tickets that never needed a human.
Identity & Access Management — Own user lifecycle: provisioning, deprovisioning, group management, access policies, SSO configuration. Keep IAM clean, auditable, and as automated as possible.
Onboarding & Offboarding — Design and maintain automated workflows for the full employee lifecycle. We've selected the tooling, you'll wire it up, integrate it with agents, and keep improving it.
Build Into Security & Infrastructure
Infrastructure-as-Code — Our infrastructure is managed as code (Pulumi on GCP). You'll read, understand, and make changes to IaC from day one, growing into ownership of parts of our internal and production infrastructure.
Security Stack — As you automate the operational floor, you'll grow into owning our security posture: network policies, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, access controls on production systems, and security tooling. The end state is you owning the security stack across our infrastructure.
Technical Foundations
You solve problems with code, not clicks. Scripting ability in Python, Bash, or similar. Your instinct when you see a repetitive task is to automate it.
You're comfortable reading infrastructure-as-code. You don't need deep Pulumi or Terraform experience, but you should be comfortable reading code and config files and willing to learn fast.
You have some cloud familiarity. GCP, AWS, or similar, even if it's from coursework or personal projects.
You think about security. Who has access to what and why. Least privilege. What could go wrong. Even if you haven't worked in security formally, this is how your brain works.
AI-Native Mindset
You're excited about AI and automation. You don't need a portfolio of LLM projects — but you should be the kind of person who's already playing with these tools and thinking about how they could change the way IT works. You see repetitive processes as problems to engineer away, not work to settle into.
What Matters Most
Hunger over credentials. Show us what you've built, what you've automated, what you've figured out on your own.
Speed of learning over depth of experience. We'd rather see someone who taught themselves Terraform last month than someone with a certification they earned two years ago and haven't used since.
A security mindset. You don't need formal security experience, but you should care about doing things properly — access controls, audit trails, least privilege.
Intellectual honesty. You know what you don't know. You ask for help. You share what you learn.
What We Invest In You
You bring curiosity and hunger. We invest in building your security and infrastructure depth — and in pushing your AI skills further than you'd get on your own.
Weekly AI Office Hours. 1:1 pairing sessions on real problems — bring a workflow you're automating and we'll work through it together. Up to 4 hours every week with senior engineers.
Forge — our internal AI tooling layer. Shared skills, agents, MCP servers, and hooks built by the team, for the team. You'll benefit from what others have built and contribute your own.
Cool-down time for skill-building. Protected time built into our rhythm for experimentation, learning, and going deep on something that interests you.
Working directly with the Head of Engineering who built the infrastructure you'll be growing into. Your security knowledge, infrastructure thinking, and production instincts will grow fast here.
Equity ownership. All team members receive equity (ESOP).
Generous time off. 20 days annual leave to start, plus 5 extra after your first year, and 1 additional day each year after that (up to 30).
Parental leave. 12 weeks paid for the birth parent, 6 weeks for the secondary carer after 2 years.
Work from anywhere. Up to 6 weeks each year to work from anywhere in the world, with time zone crossover with Australia.
Committed to inclusion. Mutinex is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, experiences, identities, and abilities.
